details
We all have our patterns, natural tendencies and preferences, and our own way of seeing and moving through the world. In so many ways we are our own little universe of connections and activity. Movement and breath classes throughout the week will offer opportunities for each of us to reconnect with and nurture our own nature, move through stagnation and limiting beliefs, and grow in our capacity for personal expression and honest communication. Classes and workshops will range from gentle and restorative to challenging and strengthening, and will focus on exploring the bounds of our own potential.
about your hosts
Sofia + Rebecca met in a photography class at Parsons circa 2004. Several teacher trainings later, yoga brought them back together. While reminiscing at a coffee shop around the corner from their alma mater, the idea for this retreat was born.
ABOUT REBECCA JO:
www.rebeccajoyoga.com
Inspired by the rhythms of the natural world, Rebecca Jo guides her students into their own innate patterning through practices of breath awareness, supportive movement and meditation. Within each class she emphasizes the need to slow down and create a space for oneself that is both comforting and sacred.
Trained in the arts of dance, photography, and breath-centered movement she incorporates a lifetime of lessons into each class and encourages her students to integrate practices of conscious flow into daily life.
Rebecca earned her 200hr RYT certification in 2009 while living on a self-sustained farm in the mountains of Spain. She began her teaching practice in New York City, working privately with individuals recovering from injury; supporting them in finding acceptance and peace within their bodies as they redeveloped their physical strength and range of motion. Her practice is informed by the teachings of Abbie Galvin + Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga, Tom Myers, Tias Little, Ana Forrest and BKS Iyengar, among others.
A life-long traveler and eternal student, she seeks opportunities to immerse herself in new experiences and discover different ways of seeing the world. She has led retreats and workshops in Mexico, Costa Rica, Morocco, NYC, LA and Denver. Rebecca is currently living and breathing in Denver, CO where she is honored to share her practice and teachings at The Freyja Project and Pura Vida Club.
ABOUT SOFIA:
http://www.sofiatome.com/
Sofia Tomé is a photographer whose creative path began as a Sophomore in high school, where her love of the darkroom prompted her to pursue a BFA in Photography from the Parsons School of Design. Over the years, her style has evolved from conceptual and documentary to travel, landscape, and lifestyle photography. From early on, Sofia's tools of choice have run the gamut from 35mm to medium format to instant photography. Her love of the vernacular and folk art inform the lens through which she shoots and aspires to make the mundane, beautiful. A Jersey City resident, Sofia began her career as a photo editor over 10 years ago. Since then, she has pursued various opportunities in commercial, event, and documentary photography.
Currently, she works as a full-time, freelance photographer. Her work has been featured in Tiny Atlas Quarterly, Fast Company, Voyeur: Virgin Airlines, and Belong Magazine, among other reputable publications and blogs. Over the years, she has collaborated with brands ranging from Hotel Tonight and Kimpton to YogaScapes and Madewell.
As a 15 year old, Sofia’s yoga practice accidentally began in Mr. Kitts’ dance class. She earned her first 200hr RYT certification in 2008 at Integral Yoga in NYC. In 2016, she went on to complete an additional 200 hr training at Yoga Mechanics in Montclair, NJ.
